Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Expands with a Sneaky Witcher 3 Reference

The world of Cyberpunk 2077 is full of hidden surprises and references, and the recently released Phantom Liberty expansion is no exception. Players have discovered a super sneaky reference to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, another iconic game developed by CD Projekt Red, tucked away within the depths of this exciting new content.

According to IGN’s Cyberpunk 2077 Easter Eggs and References Guide, players will come across a wall-mounted phone during the Lucretia My Reflection mission in Phantom Liberty. While this encounter serves as an introduction to Idris Elba’s character, Solomon Reed, players who revisit the phone and dial different numbers found on a nearby post-it note will be rewarded with an interesting discovery.

Thanks to the open-world nature of Cyberpunk 2077, players can easily return to Capitan Caliente’s phone whenever they please to unlock the Witcher reference. Dialing the number 5745552377 will trigger the game’s main theme from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As the crackly version of the song, “The Trail,” plays over the phone, Keanu Reeves’ character, Johnny Silverhand, nods approvingly, providing a satisfying moment for fans of both games.

The phone in Capitan Caliente’s possession holds more than just this exciting Witcher reference. There are several other fun references to be discovered by experimenting with different phone numbers, adding an extra layer of enjoyment for players.

Phantom Liberty, which arrived on September 26th, brings a host of new features and updates to Cyberpunk 2077. The accompanying 2.0 update completely overhauls the game, introducing improvements to the perk system, enhanced AI, and other exciting additions. The expansion also offers closure to various fan theories, including one related to Elon Musk, pays homage to the late racing legend Ken Block, and includes intriguing elements that deepen the game’s biggest mystery.

Since the release of Phantom Liberty, Cyberpunk 2077’s popularity on platforms like Steam has skyrocketed. Players eagerly dove into the new content, uncovering a multitude of delightful Easter eggs and references along the way. Notably, players can even encounter Idris Elba’s character, Solomon Reed, in undercover situations prior to the events of the expansion. Additionally, venturing into Dogtown with a stolen police vehicle prompts a harsh response, further adding to the game’s immersive experience.

In an interesting twist, CD Projekt has also included dialogue options that allow players to bypass the events of the paid expansion entirely. By selecting specific choices, players can effectively lock away the expansion’s missions, providing a level of control over their gameplay experience.

IGN gave Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty a glowing review, rating it 9/10 and commending CD Projekt Red for their dedication to improving the game. This expansion marks a significant turnaround for the highly-anticipated RPG, building upon the success of the anime spin-off, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, as well as the latest 2.0 update.
