Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth to Feature ‘New Episode with Zack’

Fans of Final Fantasy 7 have something to look forward to with the upcoming release of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth. In an exciting announcement, it has been confirmed that Zack Fair, the smooth-talking hero from Final Fantasy: Crisis Core, will be making an appearance in this highly anticipated game. What’s even more intriguing is that Zack will have his own dedicated episode, providing fans with an in-depth experience of his character.

During a recent interview with Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase, he shed some light on the differences between Rebirth and the original Final Fantasy 7. While the order of certain events in the storyline may differ, the overarching narrative remains focused on the events following Remake up to the Forgotten Capital sequence. However, Kitase also hinted at new additions to the game, specifically mentioning an expanded storyline involving Zack.

“Within the original Final Fantasy 7, the character Zack Fair didn’t have as significant a presence,” Kitase explained. “However, with the ending of Remake, we can see that he plays a more prominent role compared to the original. In Rebirth, players can expect a new episode centered around Zack, providing them with even more of his character. I don’t want to reveal too much, as I believe players should experience it firsthand.”

Zack Fair’s role seems to be intricately tied to the mysterious plot elements surrounding the “Whispers of Fate” in Remake. Fans might recall that Zack gained popularity with the release of Crisis Core - Final Fantasy 7 - Reunion, a remastered version of the original Crisis Core. Serving as a prequel to Final Fantasy 7, the game explores Zack’s interactions with iconic characters such as Cloud, Aerith, and Sephiroth before their roles in the seventh installment.

A recent teaser for Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth showcased various exciting elements, including glimpses of Cait Sith, the Gold Saucer, and Vincent. The game promises a wealth of content, with an estimated 100 hours of gameplay. Fans are eagerly awaiting specific scenes that have been long-desired in the Final Fantasy 7 community.

Set to be a PS5 exclusive, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth is scheduled for release on February 29, 2024, and will later be made available on other platforms after an initial exclusivity period of at least three months. The inclusion of fan-favorite characters like Vincent Valentine and iconic elements such as chocobos have also been discussed by Kitase and creative director Tetsuya Nomura.
