Elon Musk Was Never in Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Dev Says, Despite Him Demanding a Cameo

Since its release, Cyberpunk 2077 has been subject to numerous fan theories and speculations. One of the most widely believed theories revolved around the idea that Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, had made a cameo appearance in the game. However, a recent statement from CD Projekt Red, the game’s developer, has put an end to these rumors.

Patrick K. Mills, the senior quest designer for Cyberpunk 2077, responded to a post on X by user Virus_Kid, who claimed that the recent game-changing Update 2.0 had removed Elon Musk’s cameo from the corpo opening scene. Mills dismissed this claim, referring to it as “nonsense” and stating that the character in question doesn’t resemble Musk in any way. This response came as a surprise to many fans who had been convinced of the billionaire’s appearance in the game.

The speculation of Elon Musk’s involvement in Cyberpunk 2077 had gained traction due to his supposed appearance in the corpo opening, which focuses on the player working within mega corporations in the dystopian Night City. It was even reported that Musk himself had demanded a cameo during a recording session with his former girlfriend, Grimes, who voiced the character Lizzy Wizzy in the game. According to PC Gamer, Grimes mentioned in an Elon Musk biography that he had brought an antique firearm to the session, jokingly stating, “I told them that I was armed but not dangerous.”

Despite these claims and the widespread belief in Musk’s cameo, CD Projekt Red has categorically denied his involvement in Cyberpunk 2077. When contacted by IGN for further clarification, the developer declined to comment any further on the matter.

CD Projekt Red’s recent Update 2.0 brought significant changes to Cyberpunk 2077, including a revamped perk system and improved AI. The release of the update sparked a surge in popularity for the game on Steam, even surpassing the hype surrounding the launch of its only expansion, Phantom Liberty.

In our review of the DLC, IGN awarded Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty a 9/10 rating, hailing it as a turning point for CD Projekt Red’s RPG game. The expansion, combined with the anime spin-off Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the latest 2.0 Update, solidified the game’s position as a promising futuristic RPG.
