Baldur’s Gate 3’s Hotly Anticipated Patch 3 Delayed

The eagerly awaited Patch 3 for Baldur’s Gate 3 has been met with a small setback. Developer Larian Studios has announced a delay in its release to ensure proper testing and optimization. Originally set to launch on September 21st, the release date has been pushed back by a day to September 22nd. However, there is a possibility that the delay could extend further.

Larian Studios described Patch 3 as a significant update with a tweet stating that the delay was necessary for thorough testing. Swen Vincke, the founder of Larian, added in a follow-up tweet that the patch was undergoing its final round of quality assurance and if all went well, it would be released on the rescheduled date. Fans are eagerly crossing their fingers for a successful outcome.

One of the main highlights of Patch 3 is the introduction of full support for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Mac. This update aims to address ongoing performance issues, particularly in Act 3, across PC and console platforms. The sprawling Dungeons and Dragons-themed role-playing game has already made its way onto PlayStation 5, but players have encountered occasional performance drops and instability, especially when utilizing split-screen mode.

Speaking of split-screen, it has proven to be a pain point for Baldur’s Gate 3, specifically on Xbox consoles. To mitigate this issue, Larian made the compromise to remove split-screen functionality from the Xbox Series S version of the game. However, there are plans to potentially bring back the feature in a future update, providing Xbox players with the much-desired option to explore the game in split-screen mode.

Additionally, Larian Studios is actively working on implementing crossplay support, allowing PlayStation 5 owners to connect and play with PC gamers, and vice versa. This feature is highly anticipated by the community as it fosters a more inclusive multiplayer experience across platforms.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has received critical acclaim since its release, with IGN even awarding it a perfect score of 10/10. The review praises the game’s crunchy, tactical RPG combat, memorable storylines featuring complex characters, highly polished cinematic presentation, and a vast world that encourages exploration and creativity. It’s evident that Baldur’s Gate 3 has set a new benchmark for CRPGs.
